I use to write out my grocery list on my phone and cross this list off as I went about the week. But nowadays, my memory function has returned quite a bit and I can manage to keep track of what is in my fridge, what I need to buy rather than planning everything in advance.
Eating out was a very big deal for me for a long time. The thought of putting something in my stomach prepared by someone else was very daunting. The thought of sitting through a session in the restaurant trying to carry a conversation was daunting. The thought of having to go to the bathroom while I am eating was very daunting. The thought of trying to explain why I have to eat pills to help with my condition was daunting. The thought of trying to explain why I don't want to try or share any food with you was also daunting. Nowadays things are manageable and I do occasionally enjoy eating out once a while. I try to limit the amount of times I eat out to under 3 times a week.
The good news is there are still tons of healthy options to choose when eating out. My preferred choices for when I do:
Viet: Vermicelli bowl/pho
Chinese: Steamed veggie/fish, dimsum, hot pot
Japanese: maki, grilled fish, udon, egg omlette
Korean: kalguksoo, bimbimbap
Perisan: eggplant stew
Polish: Hunter's stew, perogies
Pub food: Turkey avocado sandwich no fries no salads
Again, everyone chooses to deal with their disease differently. I have seen people with chron's or UC going for fish and chips and fried mars bars or burgers and hot dogs. I would definitely not recommend them during a flare up. But even through out remission it's still wise to limit the amount of fried food, sweets, spicy dishes and alcohol or avoid them completely.
