Stress and Disease
Stress or perceived stress can be found at the root of almost all disease.
Signs of stress:
Prolonged stress:
Every object, being that has been used, alive is made of energy. We are composed of atoms that form molecules, then cells, tissues that make up the human being. As those of you may recall from science class, atoms are mostly composed of space where electrons roam and interact with other atoms forming bonds. Not only are humans very much alive and in constant motion, the objects and environments and people we interact make up the energetic being we are. Have you noticed your stomach tightening when you are nervous right before an important interview or exam? Do you get nauseous from the smell of strong perfumes? These are all physical signs that our body exhibit when we interact with the environment and they may have an impact on our physical wellness and may even exhibit itself as disease.
Signs of stress:
- Increased cortisol levels
- Increased blood sugar levels
- Increased adrenaline, noradrenaline
- Tension, lack of breathing, lack of circulation
- Shut down of digestive and reproductive organs
Prolonged stress:
- adrenal fatigue
- decrease in cortisol
- autoimmune conditions
Sleep - reduces cortisol
Exercise - reduces cortisol levels, sugar used by muscles without the aid of insulin

Chakra is a classification system used to describe the energy being originating from Indian traditions.
Autoimmune condition presented with inflamed intestines and digestive tract can be closely associated with the chakras close to the intestinal tract. The chakras that tend to blocked are the root, sacral, and solar plexus.
Have a conversation with yourself and examine if there is anything in your life that you are fighting against?
Sacred truth - Root: All is one, Sacral: Honour one another, Solar Plexus: Honour oneself
Sacred truth - Root: All is one, Sacral: Honour one another, Solar Plexus: Honour oneself
Root: Do you feel belonging and connection from your tribe?
Sacral: Are you allowed to be yourself in relationships with others?
Solar Plexus: Are you being your authentic self?
Working through these questions may address the emotional side of the disease. Emotional health is vital to wellness and play a vital role in healing the soul.

Emotional Dimension of Ulcerative Colitis
Chronic illness can lead to depression.
Many patients have to adjust their lifestyle, aspirations, employment due to chronic disease. Diagnosing depression is difficult in the medically ill, but it is important for the diagnosis to be made as left untreated patients are unlikely motivated to follow treatment plan, seek medical care.
Chronic disease can be a cause of financial stress and lead to unemployment. For some this would lead to limited health care. In countries like the united states health care insurance will be provided by your employer. Medicaid will cover for those who are physically disabled, but does not provide a safety net for those who are suffering from a chronic disease, unable to work and has no family support.

An effective support team may include:
- Naturopathic doctor

- Yoga teacher
- Acupuncturist / Chiropractor
- Massage Therapist
- Psychotherapist (to help with stress and psychological problems with your past and associated problems from work and family)
At Home Acupunture
1. Brushing your gums and tongue. Spend at least 5 minutes eat time you brush. The acupuncture points along the gums match with the entire body system, as does the tongue.
2. Brush your scalp. There are hundreds of acupuncture points on the scalp. Massage the very top of the head, it is the point of 100 meeting points; enabling you access to several channels.
3. Loofah your body. This is a hard sponge that softens with use. There are thousands of acupuncture points all over the body. Before showering, use the loofah sponge to aggressively rub all the dead cells off the body. An invigorating shower further energizes you and allows for the stimulation of new cell growth.
4. Moisten you nasal membrane. Moistening your nasal membranes increases your chi; the body's bio-electrical energy.
5. Breathing exercises. Push your stomach out as far as you can when breathing in. On expiration, let your stomach fall back to neutral. When you breathe with your abdomen it forces the diaphragm to drop and thus increases your lung capacity. Breathing leads to more oxygen and more energy.
6. Massage your face, hands, feet, and ears.

Triggers
Treatment for ulcerative colitis should focus on the overall health of the person rather than only the symptoms. Otherwise the untreated aspects will continue to prevent an individual from attaining health and wellness.
Some lifestyle choices that have become detrimental to us include: lack of physical activity, lack of emotional support, lack of self-worth due to depression, and lack of food awareness and proper eating routine. Making some of these lifestyle changes will allow us to reduce symptoms of UC by tackling the triggers from stress and diet.
